Coast Guard Boating & Navigation Courses
Our local United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Tri-State Flotilla 1002 will be instructing THREE COURSES this fall developed to provide the skills and confidence needed to explore the coast and inland waters by boat. These courses will be offered as part of the Bay Path Adult Evening School. They are scheduled on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:00 PM at the Regional Vocational Technical High School on 57 Old Muggett Hill Road, Charlton, MA. COURSES OFFERED:
ABOUT BOATING SAFELY Basic knowledge and skills needed to have safe and enjoyable boating experiences. Will certify a minor on Mass. waters, from 12 to 16 years of age, to operate a powerboat (including16 & 17 year old Personal Water Craft operators). Will also cover requirements in other states & most countries where boating safety education is mandatory to operate a vessel. Many boating insurance companies offer a discount on premiums for successful completion. September 14 – November 9
THE WEEKEND NAVIGATOR is a comprehensive course designed for both experienced and novice powerboat and sailboat Captains and Crew. The course is designed to teach the basics of navigation and upgrade the skills of the boating enthusiast that are required for a safe voyage on a variety of waters and boating conditions. Many insurance companies offer discounts on boat insurance to individuals who successfully complete the course. A Coast Guard Auxiliary certificate is provided to those students who meet the requirements established by the flotilla. (Nine Tuesday Classes) September 14 – November 23
GPS FOR MARINERS Navigation using essential global positioning system concepts. Covers use of “your GPS unit” in class, or for you to become an informed GPS buyer and user. Sept. 14 – Oct. 5
